A Fixed Parameter Tractable Approximation Scheme for the Optimal Cut Graph of a Surface

چکیده
Given a graph G cellularly embedded on a surface Σ of genus g, a cut graph is a subgraph of G such that cutting Σ along G yields a topological disk. We provide a fixed parameter tractable approximation scheme for the problem of computing the shortest cut graph, that is, for any ε > 0, we show how to compute a (1 + ε) approximation of the shortest cut graph in time f(ε, g)n. Our techniques first rely on the computation of a spanner for the problem using the technique of brick decompositions, to reduce the problem to the case of bounded treewidth. Then, to solve the bounded tree-width case, we introduce a variant of the surface-cut decomposition of Rué, Sau and Thilikos, which may be of independent interest.

On the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack
Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...
متن کاملCMSC 858F: Algorithmic Lower Bounds: Fun with Hardness Proofs Fall 2014 Fixed Parameter Algorithms and Lower Bounds for parameterized Problems
Unless P = NP we have to satisfy ourselves with any two out of the three goals. Most of the early undergrad algorithms like matching, shortest path etc. are exact and fast. To tackle hard problems and obtain a fast solution we use approximation algorithms, PTAS etc. FPT or fixed parameter tractable algorithms come to our rescue when we need to tackle hard problems yet obtain an optimal solution...
متن کاملHow to Cut a Graph into Many Pieces
In this paper we consider the problem of finding a graph separator of a given size that decomposes the graph into the maximum number of connected components. We present the picture of the computational complexity and the approximability of this problem for several natural classes of graphs. We first provide an overview of the hardness of approximation of this problem, which stems mainly from it...
متن کاملOptimal Self-healing of Smart Distribution Grids Based on Spanning Trees to Improve System Reliability
In this paper, a self-healing approach for smart distribution network is presented based on Graph theory and cut sets. In the proposed Graph theory based approach, the upstream grid and all the existing microgrids are modeled as a common node after fault occurrence. Thereafter, the maneuvering lines which are in the cut sets are selected as the recovery path for alternatives networks by making ...

Wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) is one of the advanced machining processes. Response surface methodology coupled with Grey relation analysis method has been proposed and used to optimise the machining parameters of WEDM. A face centred cubic design is used for conducting experiments on high speed steel (HSS) M2 grade workpiece material. The regression model of significant factors such ...
